Active Power Filter (APF)
Real-Time Harmonic Compensation for Improved Power Quality
The Active Power Filter (APF) is designed to eliminate harmonic distortion in power systems and improve overall power quality. It operates in real time using an external current transformer to continuously monitor load current.
Through digital signal processing (DSP), the APF identifies and isolates harmonic components from the load current. It then generates a pulse-width modulation (PWM) control signal to drive the internal insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) inverter. This inverter outputs a current that is equal in magnitude but opposite in phase to the detected harmonics.
By injecting this compensating current into the power grid, the APF effectively cancels out harmonic currents, thereby reducing electrical noise, improving equipment lifespan, and enhancing system efficiency.
